"Humanity faces an urgent choice. Continuing down our current path – where our demands on nature far exceed its capacity to supply – presents extreme risks and uncertainty for our economies. Choosing a sustainable path will require transformative change, underpinned by levels of ambition, coordination and political will akin to, or even greater than, those of the Marshall Plan."
The Economics of Biodiversity is a global review that presents a new economic framework that sets out how we should account for nature in economics and decision-making, grounded in a deep understanding of ecosystem processes and how they are affected by economic activity.
Bruegel's Guntram Wolff and Maria Demertzis chaired a discussion with Sir Partha Dasgupta, author of the report, and Executive Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans, responsible for the European Green Deal. They laid out the central findings of the review and answered questions from the audience.
