Sara Matthieu
Member, European Parliament, Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance
Saraswati Matthieu has been active in Green politics for over 14 years. She has held multiple positions within the Flemish Green party Groen, on the youth, local, national and European level. She has worked for Natuurpunt, the biggest nature conservation organisation in Flanders. She is the former chief of the general politics team at the cabinet of Brussels Mobility Minister Bruno De Lille. Sara has build expertise in such fields as environment, mobility, energy and economics. She is an active member of the Belgian womens movement.
She is a city councillor in Gent, where greens are part of the majority. Sara has been active in European politics since 2002, first with FYEG and since 2007 within EGP. She has founded the Europe working group of Groen together with MEP Bart Staes. Since 2012 she is a member of the European Greens committee.
