Mauricio Escanero Figueroa
Head of the Mission of Mexico to the European Union and Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg,
He joined the Mexican Foreign Service in 1982. He is currently the Head of the Mission of Mexico to the European Union and Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
In bilateral diplomacy, he previously served as Ambassador of Mexico to South Africa, concurrent to Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe; Charge d'Affaires at the Mexican Embassy in Jamaica; Secretary at the Embassy of Mexico to Australia; Counselor at the Embassies of Mexico to the USA and Japan, and Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Mexico in China.
In the multilateral arena, he has served as Minister at the Mexican Mission to the United Nations in New York and as Alternate Permanent Representative of Mexico to the Organization of American States in Washington DC, as well as to the UNESCO in Paris. He has also served as Head of Mexican Delegations to various international conferences and forums, including the World Heritage Committee.
At the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has been Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and to the Vice Minister of Economic and Multilateral Affairs. He also served as Director General of International Economic Promotion.
