Hugh Pope is Chief of External Affairs at ACLED since January 2024. Based in Brussels, he oversees public outreach that promotes our data and analysis through publications, website, media, events, social media, videos, graphic design and direct advocacy.

Hugh Pope was previously at International Crisis Group, the conflict prevention organization, first for eight years in Istanbul as Director of the Turkey/Cyprus Project and later also as Deputy Director of the Europe Program, then for seven years in Brussels as the global Director of Communications & Public Outreach. Previously he was a reporter based in Cairo, Damascus, Beirut, Tehran, Nicosia and Istanbul, most recently as a staff correspondent for The Wall Street Journal covering Turkey, the Middle East and Central Asia.
