Emilio Lamo de Espinosa

Emilio Lamo de Espinosa (Madrid, 1946) has a Ph.D. in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid (1972) and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California (Santa Barbara, 1979) and is full Professor of Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid(1982). He is also member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, the European Academy of Arts and Sciences and the editorial board of the International Journal of Transparency and Integrity
Former President of the Spanish Sociological Association (2007-2009) and its Honorary Member. Former Director of the Ortega Gasset Institute (1997-2001), the largest postgraduate Spanish research center in the social sciences. Founder and first Director of the Elcano Royal Institute (2001-2005).
In 1996 he recieved the 'Jovellanos International Essay Award' for his book Sociedades de cultura y sociedades de ciencia (Culture and Science Societies) (Ediciones Nobel, 1996). He has published 22 books more than one hundred scientific papers.
