Q&A
14:00-14:15Without a step-change in buildings energy renovations the EU risks to miss its overall climate targets.
For this reason, countries have agreed to recast the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and to create a new carbon pricing system, the ETS II, covering buildings and road transport. The two policies need to go hand in hand, as over reliance on the ETS II for decarbonising the building sector will raise the energy expenditure of the average household at higher levels than during the 2022 energy crisis. Additional financing and smart policies should hence be made available to assist households and firms in deploying clean energy solutions and insulating buildings.
At this event we discussed the EU investment gap for energy renovations and potential ways to bridge it.
