Q&A
16:45-17:00In pursuit of a climate-neutral future, the European Commission, propelled by the European Green Deal in 2019 and subsequently fortified by the European Climate Law in 2021, firmly committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and a 55% reduction by 2030. As we navigate the regulatory landscape for the 2030 target, attention turns to establishing intermediary targets, including a 2040 climate target that will be proposed by the European Commission in 2024. At this event we analysed timelines, engagement strategies, and the impact assessment for the 2040 EU climate target, aligning with the Paris Agreement's ambition cycle and the UN process. Valuable insights were shared by a Commissioner Hoekstra, offering a perspective before the targets are adopted and underscoring the collaborative efforts essential for shaping a sustainable future.
